Its time to start planning for your financial future, putting it off any longer could really jeopardize your financial health. You know now where you are financially now imagine that you were suddenly unemployed with no prospects for a new job in sight. It is happening to people by the millions during the last three years and most of them have no alternate source of income to fall back on.

The decades of cradle-to-grave corporate jobs has all but disappeared, unless you work for the government your chances of earning a retirement income aren’t very good at all.
Since we are all getting older and getting up and going to work hasn’t become any easier most of us are going to have to fend for ourselves. You can’t really count on Social Security either. The only thing that you can count on is yourself.

If this recession has taught us anything it has taught us that everyone is going to have to develop an alternate source of income. If you are fortunate enough to have a lot of money in the bank you can probably survive on dividend and interest payments, if you don’t have a lot of money you are going to have to think of a plan “B.”

The solution that I have found is a low cost business that you can run right from your computer. The main company is a nutritional network marketing company and it is very legitimate. The nutritional part works well for me because I use nutritional products anyway so instead of buying them from the store I just buy them from the company I am a member of so there is really no out-of-pocket for me to have to worry about. Some people frown on network marketing probably they had a bad experience once before. But they have improved over the years with free websites, free back offices on the websites for you to do your business with, and more.

The link to the company I am working with is: www.domesticbiz.com take a look at it. You will find that it is a pretty straight forward program. When you get to the website click on the “Listen & Learn” button and it will explain the company and business to you.

You can also sign-up for a free trial so you can fully research the website and the back-office. Once you sign-up and listen to the “Listen and Learn” recording you should check out the other benefits the company offers, such as:

1)	The marketing materials
2)	Virtual office home
3) Online marketing materials
4)	Conference call archives
5)	Plus, in the Virtual Office there is a help button should you have any questions or don’t quite understand something.

The current recession (or should we say Depression) is hurting many people. Not only do people find themselves unemployed or having their hours cut, the collapse of the credit markets means people cannot rely on credit cards to get by for the short term.

Finding a job is more necessary than ever, due to dwindling savings and a lack of short-term credit. However, it is tougher and tougher to find jobs, as companies are firing more than they are hiring.

Getting a new job requires diligent work, patience, and efficiently marketing oneself. The first step towards finding a job is to rethink what a job is. Many people think of a job as an entitlement, something that is handed to them, like a gift. As we all know, tha is not the case.

Remember, a company would hire you because they hope that you will bring something to the organization to help it make money. Companies cannot afford bloated labor forces in this environment. Just ask GM and Chrysler.

I will not describe many of the standard ways of finding jobs, such as searching Craigslist, Monster.com, and the newspapers. Instead, here are a few other ideas that may help you land work.

One idea is to search through smaller, free job sites. Think of random work and Google it. You may find some smaller jobs sites that allow employers to post jobs for free. Generally these jobs are for part-time or contract work, but money is money. These employers post on these free jobs board and may not post on the larger ones because the larger ones charge hefty fees.

Another idea is to market yourself on freelance jobs boards, like Elance.com. These sites allow contractors to bid for work. Of course, this means you will have to be able to do something that is contact work, like translation, web development, or article writing. There is a surprising away of contract work that is needed, and more and more companies are choosing contractors over full-time help.

The job market is tough nowadays. To find good work means focusing on a wide variety of avenues. In addition to the standard avenues, open yourself up to some of the other free opportunities the Internet provides you. Generally, these jobs are contract work, but contract work still pays good money and you can form a long-lasting relationship with the employer.

After working for IBM for twelve years when the news came. Everyone that had been working for the company thought they had a job for life as long as we did our jobs satisfactorily, but it didn’t turn out that way. Management began having meetings the October just before the layoff announcements came out. Then in December we began getting our notices. The company was downsizing because the product that we were making was no longer needed in the quantities that it had been.

Even though I knew it wasn’t personal thoughts and conversations kept coming around that we were all good workers and that we usually went above the requirements of the job to get things done in a high quality manner. Somehow we thought that should count for something, but it did not. Even with all of the dedicated hard work no one had built-up any equity with the company. We were all expendable. The hard part now was to get re-trained to do other types of work because we were all highly trained in a specialized field unique to the jobs we had and now we were obsolete. The company offered outplacement training which helped several of us find new work but to get up to the level that we had been at would take a long time. Some of the workers had alternative sources of income that helped them through the transition while the others had to really cut back.

After that experience the biggest lesson that I learned is not to specialize in any job, other than in the medical field, because it really narrows your chances at finding a new job if you have to and lowers your overall market value as an employee. You really have to be diversified in the job market to stay competitive and employable. Doing jobs outside your comfort zone will help you learn new things that you can do that you never thought you could do before. For example, right after my layoff I started selling cars. I had never even thought of doing something like that before, I would rather be building them. But with some training it didn’t turn out to be a bad job after all and unlike all of the bad press you really do help people find the right car for there needs, all of those rip-off articles are way out dated.

When the plant closed for good around two years after we started our home based business we weren’t concerned about how we were going to survive at all thanks to our home based business. Starting it for the sake of diversifying our income was one of the wisest decisions that we have ever made. You just can’t trust your livelihood to someone else.

My kids have vowed to always have at least two sources of income to provide for their family and a home based business would be one of the sources. Not doing something like that to take care of your family especially knowing what they know now is just irresponsible. They also realize how scary it is to work for a private sector company that could just go away on you leaving you with nothing to show for all of the years you may have invested working for them. So instead of investing their youthful years on into middle age in something like that they are both studying in fields that will prepare them for good secure government jobs. In times like these what you cannot trust companies to do the right thing you have to forget about innovation and inventions in the private sector and instead set your job sights on a future in the public sector with a secure government job. When you are in your fifties and able to retire with full benefits and an awesome pension you will be glad you did. Working for the government now is what working for IBM was in the sixties, a good secure job that has respect for the individual something that is completely missing in the private sector now.

The global economic downturn has taken jobs across the world as its first casualty. There has been a rampant bloodbath in the job market and more and more companies are announcing layoffs by the day. Thus, job losses are no more a distinct possibility but a very plausible reality in these times. What does this mean for jobseekers and laid off associates? Is it the end of the road for them? What is the way to land a job in such a situation?

Surely, things are going to be tough for job hunters but that does not mean there are no opportunities left at all. Surely, companies are hiring and there are jobs in India and abroad if one looks around. However, what is required is to expand one’s horizons and accept avenues that might have seemed not so apt before this. And most importantly, keep frustration at bay. Don’t let it ruin your positive spirit and the will to find yourself the right job. You need to immediately get proactive instead of reactive and switch to more creative and aggressive job techniques to be able to find that elusive job in these rough economic times.

Unemployed and people who have been laid off are bound to feel negative sentiment such as despair, panic and frustration. While there is no use denying these feelings because they are natural, one should definitely try to manage them in a way that they don’t hamper your job search and further ruin your chances of getting hired. In fact, some experts believe that recession is the time that opens up such opportunities that would not be visible in normal times. So, there is a silver lining despite the gloomy situation. So, you have to remember that just because you are out of job right now does not mean that you are out of your skills too. It is no reason why you should not be productive.

While getting a job may take some time, a positive minded jobseeker would utilize this time to improve upon his skill sets and be ready to be embraced by employers as soon as the market opens up. It is just a matter of time and your patience before you get a good job opportunity soon. If there was a particular course or a small diploma that you wanted to do, it is the time to do it but make sure that the course you undertake is relevant to your career and enhances your chances of getting a job.

Since recession time is a very volatile and fast-changing time, it is important to keep a tab of what’s happening around. Keep yourself updated of what’s happening in the job market in not just your company but also your industry. This will give you a fair idea of what are your chances of getting a job in the same industry. If the scenario is too bad and there is freeze on recruitments everywhere in your industry, then you might have to look for opportunities in other industries. What is of prime importance at this time is that you find a job that keeps you in the running and you don’t have to sit out. You can always approach a career counselor to seek advice on a career shift.

While looking for a job in downturn, it is important to market yourself well. For any job out there, there would be more contenders than ever. So, it is important you remain ahead in the race by marketing your eligibility for the job in the best possible manner. You also need to turn aggressive in your job search. Contact more recruiters personally, network well, keep yourself aware of any vacancies that might be advertised and that might be suitable to you. It is your attitude that will count the most at this time. Your persistence and focus are the keys to get you a desired job even in downturn.

At this time of job hunting, you might want to revisit and redo your resume. Ensure that it reflects your capability, skills and experience in no uncertain terms. Prepare a resume that you get you a job with a cover letter that can convince the employer that you are the most suitable candidate for the job that you are applying for. Once you are called for an interview, perform your best and be active on the follow-up. These are the basics of a job search that need to be adhered to more religiously than even in these times with more pro-activeness, a positive attitude and creativity. And remember, this too shall pass as recessions of the past. So, don’t lose heart.
