(don’t know who
sent this – but thought it was worth passing
on)

A lady got up very early one morning and went outside
to pickup the
Sunday paper, she noticed someone had sprayed red
paint all over the
neighbors brand new beige truck. She went over and
woke him up and gave
him the bad news. He was, of course extremely upset.
And they stood
there trying to figure out what could be done about
the problem. They
decided there wasn’t much recourse but to wait until
Monday, since
nothing was open.

Just then another neighbor came out of his
house, surveyed the
situation and immediately went to get his WD-40 out
and cleaned the red
paint off with it. Guess What! It cleaned up that
paint without harming
the original paint on the truck! I’m impressed!!

Water Displacement #40. The product began from a
search for A rust
preventative solvent and de greaser to protect Missile
parts. WD-40 was
created in 1953 by three Technicians at the San Diego
Rocket Chemical
Company. Its name comes from the project that was to
find a
‘water displacement’ compound. They were
successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.
The Corvair
Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas
missile parts.

Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is
nothing in WD-40
that would hurt you…’ IT IS MADE FROM FISH OIL’ .
When you read the
‘shower door’ part, try it. It’s the first thing that
has ever cleaned
that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works
just as well as
glass.. It is a miracle! Then try it on your
stovetop… It is now
shinier than it has ever been before.

Nobody wanted to be there. Not even one person. However, they were all there, and in a strange way, glad they were.

It was the waiting room of the Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit (NTICU) at Memorial Hermann Hospital, one of only two “Level One Trauma Hospitals” in Houston, Texas. (Memorial Hermann Hospital was the site of ABC’s medical drama entitled “Houston Medical.”)

When a person is critically injured — when one’s life is hanging in the balance due to some traumatic event — the family should always attempt to see to it that its injured loved one goes to a Level One Trauma Unit, if it’s possible.

The families in the waiting room of the NTICU almost always appear to be petrified because they know, at any moment, a physician might enter the unit and tell them, “I am very sorry. We tried everything possible, however…”

The first few days, as a rule, the families keep to themselves. However, as time passes by, the families usually get to know each other — they share the joy when there is good news for a family, and they also share their sorrow when there is poor news for a family. The Unit’s many families become a “support group” for each other.

I have seen it often. As one of the social workers for the hospital I understand the dynamics of hope and the importance of support. I have seen families volunteer to take a family from out-of-town to their homes so that they could rest and shower. I have also seen strangers pray for the recovery of someone whom they did not even know 24 hours earlier.

There are many “miraculous” stories about the families in the NTICU. Unfortunately, there are also many times when there is not “a happy ending.”

On one occasion, a young man was severely hurt and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and was rushed to our hospital. For days, his prognosis was in doubt. His mother was always in the waiting room and I am sure she experienced a roller coaster of emotions, and of course, she breathed a huge sigh of relief when the doctors gave her reason to hope.

Then she saw another mother in the waiting room whose daughter had not been given that hopeful prognosis. The daughter, she was told by the doctors, would probably soon pass away as a result of the severe injuries that she had sustained in a car accident.

The two mothers were soon linked together — strangers joined forever by a universal magnet — motherly pain. They became very close, supporting each other in both good and bad times.

Ironically, the predictions for the two mothers were eventually reversed. The young man who was supposed to survive, unfortunately passed away, while the girl who was supposed to die is now making progress in Florida, in her home.

Families in the waiting room can eventually develop very close relationships and begin to care for each other. For example, there were two patients — one elderly gentleman and the other a teenager — who had been in the Unit for quite some time. Their families got to know each other, and became close.

The parents of the teenager were always at the hospital, night and day. But, one night, the teenager’s mother returned to her home while his father remained in the waiting room. The next morning she returned to the hospital and said to the wife of the elderly patient, who regularly remained at the hospital night and day, “I was worried about you all night.”

The elderly woman responded, “I figured you were worried because last night I WAS SLEEPING WITH YOUR HUSBAND IN THE WAITING ROOM AND I WOULDN’T HAVE MISSED IT FOR THE WORLD!”

Everyone burst out in deep laughter. Humor can be a great coping mechanism.

Yes, life can be very difficult. However, it can also be tempered if one has a support system to help and assist during those strenuous and exacting moments.

Support is very important — especially in the waiting room.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Treatment by William Locke

Well, let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Health authorities in UK and Europe (but not in the USA) seem to be agreed that food additives and colorings contained in kids’ junk food such as candies, cereals and chips are harmful and may lead to an increase in hyperactivity and other behavior disorders. As diet is one of the keys in attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment, this is bad news for the USA as no such legislation is in force yet for phasing out these harmful food dyes.

More bad news is that girls are often just ignored when it comes to attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment because only boys are expected to have ADHD ! But many girls who suffer from ADHD tend to have severe depression symptoms in their teens. They may become suicidal and suffer from eating disorders. This was revealed in a study by the University of Washington who studied 800 white teenagers.

When parents have to deal with disabilities such as ADHD, they are subject to greater stress than parents with normal children. The parents showed greater levels of stress on the days they spent more time with their children. Other studies have shown that parents with children who have disabilities are more likely to get divorced or separate, partly due to the enormous pressure they are under.

Now for some good news. Thousands of parents are wising up on attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment and are refusing to accept the drug companies hogwash on some of the dangerous ADHD medications which are prescribed in massive numbers for our children. They are also now becoming more wary about the side effects these medications can have on their children. They also know that attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment need not necessarily be medicated with amphetamines which are mind stimulants. They refuse to take it for granted that ADHD children need to suffer from this disorder also in adulthood.

The other good news is that with a combination therapy of natural medication ,diet, exercise, parental and school support and perhaps behaviour therapy, ADHD children can grow up to lead happy and successful lives. There is no need to see ADHD as a curse, it is just a condition and needs a bit of special attention. Many ADHD children are talented and there is no lack of intelligence among them although some may have learning disabilities. You can find out more about a natural attention deficit hyperactive disorder treatment which will ensure that you and your child can lead a much more tranquil existence.

Robert Locke is a Health enthusiast who specializes in Children’s Health. He has written extensively on ADHD. Discover what ADHD Alternative Therapy is available.

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say,
“Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over.”
I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead
“I will come next Tuesday”,
I promised a little reluctantly on her third call.

Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy.
Still, I had promised, and reluctantly I drove there.
When I finally walked into my daughter Carolyn’s
house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy children.
I delightedly hugged and greeted my grandchildren.

I told my daughter, “Forget the daffodils, Carolyn!
The road is invisible in these clouds and fog, and
there is nothing in the world except you and my grandchildren
that I want to see right now. I don’t want to drive another inch!”

My daughter smiled calmly and said,
“We drive in this weather all the time, mother.”

“Well, you won’t get me back on the road until it clears,
and then I’m heading for home!” I assured her.

“But first we’re going to see the daffodils.
It’s just a few blocks,” Carolyn said. “I’ll drive. I’m used to this.”

“Carolyn,” I said sternly,

“It’s all right, Mother, I promise.
You will never forgive yourself if you miss this experience.”

So we went!
After about twenty minutes, we turned onto a small gravel road
and I saw a small church. On the far side of the church,
I saw a hand lettered sign with an arrow that read,

“Daffodil Garden —->”

We got out of the car, each of us took a child’s hand,
and I followed Carolyn down the path.
Then, as we turned a corner, I looked up and gasped.
Before me lay the most glorious sight.
It looked as though someone had taken
a great vat of gold and poured it over the mountain peak
and its surrounding slopes.

The flowers were planted in majestic,
swirling patterns, great ribbons
and swaths of deep orange,
creamy white, lemon yellow, salmon pink,
and saffron and butter yellow.
Each different-colored variety was planted
in large groups so that it swirled
and flowed like its own river with its own unique hue.

There were five acres of flowers!

“Who did this?” I asked Carolyn.
“Just one woman,” Carolyn answered.
“She lives on the property. That’s her home.”
Carolyn pointed to a well-kept A-frame house,
small and modestly sitting in the midst of all that glory.

We walked up to the house.
On the patio, we saw a poster.

“Answers to the Questions I Know You Are Asking”
was the headline.

The first answer was a simple one. “50,000 bulbs,” it read.

The second answer was, “One at a time, by one woman. Two hands, two feet, and one brain.”

The third answer was, “Began in 1958.”

For me, that moment was a life-changing experience.
I thought of this woman whom I had never met,
who, more than forty years before, had begun,
one bulb at a time, to bring her vision
of beauty and joy to an obscure mountaintop.

Planting one bulb at a time, year after year,
this unknown woman had forever changed
the world in which she lived.
One day at a time, she had created something
of extraordinary magnificence, beauty, and inspiration.

The principle her daffodil garden taught me
is one of the greatest principles of celebration.
That is, learning to move toward our goals and desires one step at a time.

“It makes me sad in a way,” I admitted to Carolyn.
“What might I have accomplished
if I had thought of a wonderful goal thirty-five
or forty years ago and had worked away at it
‘one bulb at a time’ through all those years?

Just think what I might have been able to achieve!”
My daughter summed up the message of the day
in her usual direct way.

“Start tomorrow,” she said.

She was right.
It’s so pointless to think of the lost hours of yesterdays.
The way to make learning a lesson of celebration
instead of a cause for regret is to only ask,

“How can I put this to use today?”

The Daffodil Principle.

Stop waiting…..
Until your car or home is paid off
Until you get a new car or home
Until your kids leave the house
Until you go back to school
Until you finish school
Until you clean the house
Until you organize the garage
Until you clean off your desk
Until you lose 10 lbs.
Until you gain 10 lbs.
Until you get married
Until you get a divorce
Until you have kids
Until the kids go to school
Until you retire
Until summer
Until spring
Until winter
Until fall
Until you die…

There is no better time than right now to be happy.
Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
So work like you don’t need money.
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
and, Dance like no one’s watching.
If you want to brighten someone’s day,
pass this on to someone special (like I did to you!)

Wishing you a beautiful, daffodil day!
Don’t be afraid that your life will end,
be afraid that it will never begin.
